About Yakutia

Yakutia is the largest and coldest region of Russia. This is where the Pole of Cold of the Northern Hemisphere is located - the region of the earth with the lowest recorded temperature where people live permanently. The Republic was founded: April 27, 1922 as the Yakut Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic as part of the RSFSR and the USSR. In 1991, the Yakut Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic received its modern name - the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

Geographical location The area of Yakutia is 3,083,523 sq km, which is 1/5 of the entire Russia or almost 2/3 of the area of Western Europe. The population of Yakutia is 959.7 thousand people (2016), of which 63 % live in cities.

Climatic features

Yakutia is full of natural contrasts. The climate is sharply continental, with long winters (negative temperatures last from 6 to 8 months) and short summers, the amplitude of air temperature fluctuations exceeds 100 degrees Celsius.

Winter in Yakutia is long, cold and with little snow, and summer is short, mostly dry with relatively high temperatures. April and October in Yakutia are winter months. It is a circle, in the center of which there is an image of an ancient horseman with a banner from rock paintings of the Lena River, against the background of a solar disk-shield, framed with a traditional national ornament in the form of seven rhombic crystal-shaped figures and the inscriptions "Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)" and "Sakha Өrөspuүbulukate". The sun is silver, the rider is dark red, the frame is dark blue, the ornament and inscription are white.

Heraldic description of the State Emblem of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia):

"In the silver field there is a scarlet (red) horseman with a banner having three braids; the azure (blue, light blue) border at the top is burdened with seven silver Yakut diamonds (figures in the form of squares placed on the corner, each of which is divided into six parts: crosswise and like two rafters converging on the sides)."

It is a rectangular panel consisting of four equal horizontal stripes of blue, white, red and green colors, respectively. The ratio of the width of the stripes to the width of the flag: blue stripe - 3/4 of the flag width, white stripe - 1/16, red stripes - 1/16, green stripe - 1/8 of the flag's width. In the middle of the blue stripe there is a white circle. The diameter of the circle is 2/5 of the flag's width. The ratio of the flag's width to its length is 1:2
